NRA Statement on Re-Filing of Lawsuit against McDonald's

(Washington, DC) National Restaurant Association President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson today issued the following statement:

"Common sense and reason prevailed a short 28 days ago when a Federal judge, on January 22, dismissed a ridiculous lawsuit blaming a restaurant company for the weight issues of the plaintiffs. We said it was frivolous then – and, nothing has changed.

"These lawsuits that have been repeatedly filed by the same trial attorney will do nothing to help those Americans who have problems with their weight. And, it is unconscionable that the trial bar is attempting to scare consumers about the safety and quality of food.

"The National Restaurant Association is absolutely committed to working with public- and private-sector representatives to help those Americans as they take personal responsibility for their health. Healthy lifestyles are achieved and maintained by moderation and balance in diet and by exercise and activity. Blaming any one restaurant or any one food is an absurd notion that doesn't address the issue."
