| Giddings Blocks New Lottery Game |
Governor Jennifer Granholm will have to wait a least a little while longer to implement one of her proposed new lottery games. Ingham Circuit Judge James Giddings blocked implementation of a new pull-tab game, agreeing with a charity gaming vendor that the state may not have the authority to offer the game.
Linda and Robert Brazier, who operate Blackjacks, a charity gaming supplies vendor, argued that their pull-tab sales would suffer if the state began offering its own pull-tab game and that the state did not have the statutory authority to offer the game proposed.
Sage Eastman, spokesperson for Attorney General Mike Cox, said the game may run afoul of some prior case law and an attorney general opinion. But he said Lottery officials were looking at the structure of the game for ways to change the game to comply with the law rather than having to seek changes to the law to allow the game.
No hearings have been scheduled in the case. |
