| Compact Amendment Allows Mackinac City Casino |
The Little Traverse Band of Odawa Indians is considering a new casino in the Mackinac City area under a compact amendment announced Friday by the tribe and Governor Jennifer Granholm.
The amendment, which does not need legislative approval under the original terms of the compact, allows the Little Traverse Band to operate one more casino in its area of Charlevoix and Emmett counties, with approval of the local community. Tribal officials said they are hoping to locate the new facility in the Mackinac City area.
Under the amendment, the local community would receive 2 percent of all revenue from both casinos. The state would continue to receive 8 percent of revenue from the current casino. The new casino would pay the state 10 percent of the first $50 million and 12 percent of any revenue after that. |
