Man attacked outside restaurant

HOLLAND - A Holland Township man who was attacked and beaten while in the drive-through line of a fast-food restaurant was in stable condition Saturday at Holland Community Hospital.

Ottawa County sheriff's deputies said Mamon Marks, 48, was in his car at KFC on East Lakewood Boulevard when he was attacked about 4:25 p.m. Friday. He suffered a skull fracture.

Marks told police a man approached the car and demanded money. When he refused, the man assaulted Marks while he sat in the car. Marks then got out of his car to protect family members, who also were in the car, from being hurt.

Once outside the car, the suspect unsuccessfully tried to steal Marks' wallet, deputies said. Marks was attacked again. The suspect fled the area in a small black car that went east on Lakewood Boulevard. Anyone with information about the attack can call police at 738-4000, ext. 1199, or Silent Observer at 392-4443.
