Act Now to Avoid a Critical Violation on Your Next Inspection
The Michigan Food Law requires that by June 30, 2009, every licensed foodservice establishment employ a manager who is certified in an approved food safety and sanitation program. The deadline is approaching fast.
This statewide mandate helps ensure the same food safety standards in each county. Michigan is the 19th state with a statewide certified manager law.
The Michigan Restaurant Association (MRA) is dedicated to helping all foodservice establishments in Michigan obtain certification by offering ServSafe®, the industry’s leading program for food safety. The Michigan Department of Agriculture has approved this program and recognizes ServSafe certification as meeting all requirements of the 2005 U.S. Food and Drug Administration Food Code requirements.
ServSafe not only teaches the key components of food safety, it also provides real world resources to transform knowledge into action. The program teaches staff how to put the highest standard to work in their kitchens every day.
Because the MRA understands the importance of restaurateurs and their time, classes are offered in both 8-hour and self-study formats. The self study format only requires owners, operators, and key managers to take a proctored exam. We’ve also recently expanded the number of dates and locations for classes and exams to include: Gaylord, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Livonia, Midland, and Traverse City.
Pre-registration is required, those wishing to register can do so online at michiganrestaurant.org/servsafe. Once registered for a class, you will be shipped a ServSafe Essentials text book, which you will need to read and study. The text book and exam are available in a number of languages including English, Spanish , Chinese, and Korean.
For more information and to become compliant, contact the MRA at 800.968.9668.
