Doing Great Work in Your Community? Apply for the 2009 Restaurant Neighbor Award

More than 90 percent of restaurants are involved in their communities, according to National Restaurant Association research. They donate leftover food to shelters, sponsor youth sports teams, work with national organizations to end hunger — and that's just the start.

To recognize and honor restaurateurs for their many contributions, the National Restaurant Association, with American Express, created the Restaurant Neighbor Award. We encourage you to apply for the award or nominate a colleague today.

Michigan will honor three winners – one small business, one mid-size business, and one humanitarian. The National Restaurant Association will select national winners in each category as well as a large business/chain winner and honor them with an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, this September for a gala awards dinner. Each national winner also will receive $5,000 to support their favorite community project or charity.

The deadline to submit applications is June 5, 2009. You can apply online. For more details, contact the MRA Public Affairs Department by phone at 800.968.9668 or by email.
