MRA Applauds Legislature for Passing Key Alcohol Policy Priorities
The Michigan Restaurant Association (MRA) applauded the Michigan Legislature for passing two key alcohol policy priorities. On Wednesday, September 29, both the state Senate and the state House of Representatives passed legislation that created:
- The ability to sell alcoholic beverages on Sunday mornings, and
- The ability to sell and serve distilled spirits for off-site catered events.
The MRA Liquor Licensee Advisory Group (LLAG), had been overseeing and directing this effort for the last several months.
The Senate passed the measure including these two provisions on a vote of 25-13 and the House of Representatives quickly concurred with the Senate version of the bill on a strong vote of 73-30.
While the passage of this legislation is a very significant and positive development, the effort is not over. Gov. Jennifer Granholm has not yet indicated whether she will sign or veto the bill.
All MRA members and their staff teams are urged to call Gov. Granholm and ask her to sign into law Enrolled House Bill 6007.
