Calling all Michigan Restaurateurs! Capitol Day 2006 is quickly approaching
Minimum wage to be a highlight of annual event
LANSING – On Tuesday, April 18, 2006, the Michigan Restaurant Association will be hosting the seventh annual Capitol Day event in Lansing, an opportunity for Michigan restaurateurs to convene in Lansing to speak in a unified voice to Michigan’s lawmakers, powerbrokers and decision-makers.
“No restaurateur should miss Capitol Day,” said MRA director of public affairs Andy Deloney. “This event gives them an unparalleled opportunity to tell their elected officials how the threat of higher taxes, more burdensome regulations and a big increase in the minimum wage will affect their ability to operate a business, pay wages, and create jobs.”
The MRA expects its largest number of attendees ever this year, anticipating over 120.
The event brings restaurant owners and top staff from around the state to the capital to get updates on public policy issues that matter most to one of the state’s largest industries, ask questions on these and other issues, and speak directly with their lawmakers on how their decisions affect them personally. At this year’s event, recent legislative activity – and potential future activity – on the state minimum wage will be front and center.
“The minimum wage increase is the biggest issue our industry has faced in quite some time,” said Deloney. “We invite our members to come to Capitol Day to get the latest, ask questions, and learn about what happens next.”
Following a morning issues briefing and lunch, the attendees will fan out to meet with their legislators to discuss the issues important to them in personal sessions. Said Deloney: “There is no better way to get a lawmaker to see a particular point of view than by having a job-providing, taxpaying and voting business operator sit down with them to explain their side.”
The day closes with a legislative reception for the restaurateurs, lawmakers and other officeholders. Truly a grand way to close the day, the legislative reception has become the highlight of this annual event.
