Borovsky began his professional career with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. While with Hyatt, he was promoted six times, eventually becoming executive director of food and beverage. From there, he was recruited and hired by MGM Grand. In the past 11 years he has risen through the ranks at MGM Grand, beginning as executive director of food and beverage. In his current role as vice president of planning and development, his duties included overseeing the design and construction of the new MGM Grand Detroit Casino.

“There are very few people who have the intelligence, energy, and leadership ability that Barrie has,” said Rob Gifford, president and chief executive officer of the MRA. “His incredible work ethic and dedication to this industry know few equals.”

Since joining the Board of Directors of the MRA in 2001, Borovsky has had a direct and dramatic impact on the association and the industry, bringing about positive change in many areas, serving as chairman of the MRA’s marketing and membership development committees.  He also has been deeply involved in the work of the MRA Educational Support Foundation, developing a management competition for young hospitality industry students that has become a national model, and a marketing competition that will be piloted this year.

In 2005, the officers of the MRA tapped Borovsky to lead the biggest project the association had ever undertaken – the demolition of the old MRA headquarters building and the construction of a new headquarters.

“We could not have picked a better individual to take up this job,” says Gifford. “His leadership and effort were truly unbelievable. His involvement helped the MRA build our incredible new facility on time and on budget.”

The award was presented to Borovsky by 2007 award recipient Mark Wibel. Said Wibel as he announced Borovsky as this year’s recipient: “You gave us two years of your life to the building project, but you built a legacy that will last a lifetime. For this, we are all very grateful.”

Borovsky, his wife Wendy and daughters Danielle and Nicole make their home in Bloomfield Township Mich.
