MRA Educational Support Foundation Elects Officers for 2009
Larry Brown Will Lead the Educational/Charitable Group
LANSING Mich. – The Michigan Restaurant Association Educational Support Foundation (MRAESF) announced the election of its 2009 officers to lead the organization.
Larry Brown was elected to serve as chairman of the Board of Trustees; Ken Wasco was elected to serve as vice chairman; and Polly Buchanan was elected to serve as secretary/treasurer.
The MRAESF, a charitable arm of the Michigan Restaurant Association, administers the ProStart curriculum in Michigan ProStart is the career-building program for high school students who are interested in culinary arts and foodservice management.
Brown, a resident of Farmington Hills, is senior executive officer and an owner of Michaels & Associates, Inc., a sales and marketing company servicing multiple aspects of the food service industry.
“Michigan’s food and beverage industry is facing unprecedented challenges,” Brown said. “The Foundation is committed to attracting, inspiring and assisting the development of this industry’s leaders.”
Wasco, of Jenison, the Vice Chairman for the Foundation, is a professional development specialist with Gordon Food Service, a company that offers services, support and products for the food and beverage industry.
Buchanan, a resident of Saline, is a professor and interim dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.
“It has never been tougher than it is now to operate a successful restaurant business in Michigan,” said Rob Gifford, president and chief executive officer for the MRA. “The MRA Educational Support Foundation has elected outstanding individuals to continue preparing tomorrow’s hospitality industry leaders.”
