Planning Commission tables proposal for hotel and restaurant

Source: The Grand Rapids Press PLAINFIELD TWP. - Plainfield Township planners have tabled a developer's proposal for a hotel and a restaurant on 5.17 acres on the northeast corner of West River Drive and U.S. 131.

Developer Mike Winick of North Face Ventures recently presented a conceptual plan for an 80-room hotel and 6,000-square-foot restaurant. Winick wants the property rezoned from commercial and office to planned unit development.

But the Plainfield Township Planning Commission delayed the request, saying further discussion is needed with residential neighbors and another developer who wants to build a 24-acre office park north of the site off Dodge Street NE.

The commission also wants a traffic study.

Planners conceded a hotel and restaurant for the site fit the township master plan for the area.

But they said a site plan showing traffic using Wakefield Avenue to Dodge Street to access the site would be a burden on the street and residential homes along Wakefield.
