Americana Grill sold to Doby's Smokehouse

TECUMSEH - Family-style home cooking is what Don Dobrosky, Jr. says will be served up at his new restaurant, Doby's Smokehouse, in the former quarters of the Americana Grill and, before that, Don's Beef Buffet.

"I'll be using real hickory wood in the kitchen to smoke pork, beef, turkey breast, chicken and ribs," said Don, noting that everything on the menu will be made on the premises, including three different barbecue sauces - sweet, zesty and spicy.

The new owner gained experience cooking for 2,000 sailors while serving in the navy and recently gained experience as a restaurant manager in Ohio.

His father, Don Dobrosky, Sr., got Don Jr. cooking out at the early age of nine when he helped out at Doby's Donuts, which Don Sr. operated from 1970 to 1985 on M-50 just west of the city limits.

The Dobroskys said they hope to open as soon as possible, with a target date of June 1. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, with carryout available.
