Restaurant slated for State spot

Crown House of Gifts moved out of its spot at 301 S. State St. at the end of January because its lease was up and store owner Paul "Skip" Ungrodt and landlord Ed Davidson couldn't come to terms on a new lease.

According to Davidson, however, a restaurant owned by a University of Michigan graduate will replace the card shop this May. Xanadu Cosi is the brainchild of Andy Stenzler, who graduated in 1990 with a degree in industrial and operations engineering. Stenzler got the entrepreneurial bug while an MBA student at New York University, and eventually it led to the idea of a restaurant. He envisioned an upscale coffee bar, a place that also serves meals.

Breakfast and lunch will be served cafeteria style - breads and coffee in the morning, sandwiches and pizza at lunch.

At 5 p.m., the lights will be dimmed in favor of table service and dinner. Late-night offerings will include desserts and coffee with liqueurs.
