Restaurant caters to Olivet's desires

OLIVET - Depending on when you lived in Olivet, you might have known the old downtown restaurant as the College Inn, the Moon and Six Pence, Fran's Restaurant, My Place or Ollie's. But back in July, the restaurant got a new name, Gibby's, as well as a new manager, cook and menu.

Owner Katrina Hadcock and her brother Tim Tyler, both of Charlotte, pretty much run the whole operation themselves, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The restaurant's expanded hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

"We want the place to be family oriented," Tyler said. They have opened a Sunday after-church brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and have Family Night on Wednesday when kids 10 and youner eat free.

"Since we started last summer, we've tried to listen to the community, and now we're making the changes that they want. As a result, we're starting the brunch and family night, and we're also going to let our patrons bring in pictures of old Olivet or even of their families to hang on the walls," he said.

Gibby's serves a different set of four entrees each week for dinner, while serving mostly soups, sandwiches and salads for lunch.

"We have the same group of businessmen come in about 8:30 each morning for breakfast," Tyler said. "In fact, we start cooking for them before they even get here."

Gibby's is located at 110 N. Main St. in Olivet. The phone number is 749-3030.
