Liberty St. eatery gets new owners

Brothers Aaron and Joel Richard are new owners of Blimpie Subs and Salads and The Coffee Beanery, 113 E. Liberty St. in downtown Ann Arbor.

Ann Arborite John Zemba opened it in 1997 but put it on the market when his second son was born.

The Richard brothers run Blimpie Subs and the shop’s coffee corner but are also college students. Aaron, 24, is a senior at Walsh College in Troy; Joel, 22, is a senior at U-M. While Joel finishes three courses, Aaron’s running the store. They’ll swap places this summer while Joel finishes his studies.

The brothers plan to add more products in the next year. Meantime, their best selling sandwich is a southwestern wrap: bacon, turkey, spinach and guacamole for $3.49.
