Former Brandywine re-opens after two months as Knight's

The former Brandywine Restaurant at 2125 Horton is flying new colors.

After about two months of extensive renovation, the popular Summit Township restaurant re-opened Monday as Knight's Steakhouse & Grill.

Opening day was "quiet," said Sherry Knight-Bedolla, manager and a co-owner.

"That's how we wanted it," Knight-Bedolla said. "We wanted to work out some kinks before we advertised it. We're just going to ease into things and see how it goes."

A lot of the old Brandywine remains; a lot of it is gone.

The trademark Tiffany lamps remain; the "greenhouse," a glassed-in wing on the north side, is gone, replaced by a remodeled "Florida Room."

"It was leaking so we re-built it," Knight-Bedolla said.

Knight-Bedolla said the entire kitchen also has been remodeled and new, all stainless steel fixtures have been installed.

Some of the Brandywine's furniture is still in use. Eventually all tables and chairs will be replaced, said Don Knight, another co-owner. The family-owned business will continue to operate its original restaurant in Ann Arbor.

The menu reflects the eatery's name, There's filet mignon at $19.50 and a 16- to 18-ounce serving of porterhouse at $19.90. Prime rib will be served every night at prices ranging from $13.95 to $19.95.

Knight's also dips into the sea, with such offerings as lake perch at $13.95 and deep-fried gulf shrimp at $11.95.

A lunch menu features everything from hot dogs and hamburgers to a variety of soups and salads.

The original Brandywine's was founded by Jackson restaurateur William Cones in 1978. Former restaurant managers Robert and Lois Peterson took over the business in 1985. The transfer of ownership and the liquor license to the Knight's was completed earlier this year.

Business hours at the new Knight's restaurant are 11 a.m. until midnight Monday through Saturday. The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. those same days. The restaurant is closed Sundays.
