KFC to raze building and build anew at site

YPSILANTI - The Kentucky Fried Chicken at 39 E. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti closed Feb. 19, but according to Minnie Ballard, one of its managers, the corporation plans to raze the place and build a new store.

As one of the oldest locations in the chain, it had multiple problems, including a leaky roof and faulty plumbing.

Ballard says the new shop, scheduled to open in July or August, will be twice the size of the old one, as KFC bought the lot behind the site. Expect tables outside, more comfortable seating and an awning over the the drive-through.
