Canadian winery sets scene for delectable dining delights
Source: Detroit News
Wine dinners have become a regular feature at a number of local restaurants, usually involving a traveling representative of a faraway vineyard. Here’s one, however, that is in the winery itself. Colio Estates Winery in Harrow, Ontario, is one of several wine producers in Essex County achieving real recognition.
The Lake Erie North Coast wine country is now being compared to the Napa Valley, circa 1960. Don’t laugh. It could happen.
The upcoming dinner is on Sunday, June 3 at 6 p.m. in the barrel room at Colio and will include, in addition to a tour of the premises by winemaker Carlo Negri, dinner prepared by the talented Nick Politi of Windsor’s Ristorante Nico.
It will include goat cheese, tomato and taragon bruschetta, smoked salmon, ricotta-stuffed cannelloni with fresh tomato and basil sauce, baby spinach salad with pear vinaigrette and veal shanks braised in wine, with appropriate premium wines, of course. Thanks to the favorable exchange rate, it’s a bargain at $50 (U.S.)
The event, completely nonsmoking, is one of a series of wine dinners being organized by Dearbornite Jim Rice. Reach Jim at (313) 277-3865 or e-mail at pegasus@mail.provide.net
