DETROIT WATER AND SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT LIFTS BOIL WATER REQUIREMENTS As of 3:00 P.M. today, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) in concurrence with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) lifted a boil water requirement for its customers. Recent sampling throughout the system indicates the water is safe to drink. The advisory was initiated last Thursday following the nation's largest power blackout, which resulted in areas in the water system of low or no pressure. DWSD crews have been working around the clock to restore service lost when the blackout shut down pumping stations and water treatment facilities. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department wishes to thank its customer communities and their leadership for their continued efforts with DWSD in assisting the Department during this unprecedented crisis. The DWSD also thanks all residents and business owners in the Department's service area for their patience and cooperation while normal service conditions were being restored. DWSD supplies high-quality drinking water to 4.3 million people who live and work in Detroit and 125 other communities in southeast Michigan. The Department provides wastewater services to three million people who live and work in Detroit and 76 other southeast Michigan communities.
