As a private employer, you are required to have workers' compensation coverage if:

• You employ three or more workers at a time; or
• You have employed at least one worker for at least 35 hours for a period of 13 weeks or more.

If coverage is not provided, you may face severe penalties including business shut-down, fines and imprisonment.

The Bureau of Workers' and Unemployment Compensation administers the provisions of the Michigan Workers' Disability Compensation Act.
