Chris Sullivan is a man who understands the meaning of success. As one of the founders of Outback Steakhouse restaurant company, Chris knows “success” means more than just creating a perfect “Bloomin’ Onion.”
Success to Chris entails learning from and sharing plans and ideas with some incredible colleagues. “Having been a part of Norman Brinker’s team early in my career was critical to any success I have achieved.” Chris also credits his partners Bob Basham and Tim Gannon for Outback’s ability to create a successful team. Beyond his Outback family, “the late Mike Jenkins and Tom DeCotiis were role models early in his career.
Chris is convinced that in addition to the right people power, a successful enterprise must be run by living your Principles and Beliefs. Our Principles and Beliefs are put into practice everyday by way of our slogan “No Rules, Just Right.” This is a commitment to our customers that we are here to serve them and that our people will do everything in their power to get it right. We believe that by putting people first, Outback will grow and serve as an example to others.
It appears to be a winning formula. The first Outback opened in 1988. There are now over 700 Outback Steakhouse restaurants worldwide. Outback also operates over 100 Carrabba’s Italian Grills, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, Roy’s, Lee Roy Selmon’s, Bonefish Grill, Cheeseburger in Paradise and other hospitality businesses.
Chris graduated from the University of Kentucky and began his restaurant career in 1972. When asked if restaurant management was the career path he’d select when he grew up? He replied, “Why do I want to grow up? Fun is one of my Principles and my inner child is very much alive and kicking. I’m living a life beyond anything I thought possible and will continue to have a passion for helping our people find their opportunities and successes.”
